Volunteers are always needed

Penny Hartley is one of the most important people to know as she’s our volunteer coordinator, that is, she gathers our supporters together for every event and works out who goes where and when. Each year we treat our volunteers to a free lunch as our way of saying Thank you for your help.

Would you like to help at an event, or do you have friends who’d like to help?
If so, please contact

Computerised Scoring

computer

Our new computerised scoring system was tried out at Escrick Park, and proved that it will make this task much easier once everyone gets up to speed.

Our thanks to all who have been involved in this venture particularly Ray Bragg who has spent a lot of time helping the club set up the system and training our willing volunteers.

Thank you also to Ruth Hirst and Carol Parsons who were the pathfinders at Escrick putting the system into practice for the first time.

As an update to the above, we ran the computerised scoring at Ripley without a manual backup and despite a few teething troubles with the hardware the system worked fine. Our greatful thanks must go to Ray Bragg for travelling to Ripley both days in order to oversee the system.

The new system was in use at Allerton, again a big thank you to Ray Bragg for his time. The huge number of classes was a logistical test for the system.

Helpers "After event get Together"

Following the marathon at Escrick the first of Helpers Co-Ordinator Penny Hartley's get together's for our event stewards and helpers proved very popular.

Many familiar faces were to be found enjoying hot drinks and food administered by Penny and her band of helpers. We hope that this will prove to be a constant post event meeting place for everyone who gives their time to help run our event and is our way of saying thank you for your efforts.

Thank you to Penny for the idea and making it happen, also to everyone who provided delicious home made baking for the get together and helped to serve.

The Helpers draw was made in the marquee during refreshments and it was good to see that some of the winners were able to collect their winnings in person.

The marquee at Ripley and Nidd continued the "Get together" and was very well supported. Once again thank you to the ladies of the club for the delicious fare.

Stewards

The sport needs new volunteers!

Driving is succumbing to the worrying trend that is affecting all sports - not just ours - with a serious decline in the number of new volunteers.  No driving event could exist without a huge team of helpers - dressage stewards and writers, marathon timekeepers, obstacle stewards and course crossing marshals, cones arena and collecting ring stewards - all equally important and essential to the smooth running of a competition.  But it is interesting to consider that over half our existing “hardcore” of regular stewards came into the sport without any prior knowledge of driving; indeed many of them had no previous experience of horses, and were drawn in by friends and relatives already involved. The sport is lucky to have the benefit of some very loyal and long-standing stewards - but they are not getting any younger, and it is essential that we encourage some new people to join us.

If you can help in any way please contact Penny Hartley or download THIS FORM your help is greatly appreciated
