Scorching hot day for the Arena Challenge at Manor Grange, but great fun had by all!
Many thanks to Pete and Ginny Ashford and the Potter family for setting up and running and to all who came to support.
Thank you also to Jane Wilson for her superb photography efforts.
Fabulous weather for the cones clinic and obstacle training day!
A huge thank you goes to Pete and Ginny Ashford for their help in setting up, Nigel Wilson, who replaced balls, checked widths and raked tramlines all day, to everyone else who took a turn with measuring, to everyone who helped pack up at the end of the day, to Judy Hilditch who helped coach everyone in the obstacles and of course to Barry Hunter who conducted the cones clinic, ably supported by his wife Joan.
And not forgetting Jane Wilson, who organised the entire event and kept everything running smoothly throughout the day, as well as coaching obstacles alongside Judy Hilditch.
And of course it goes without saying, thank you to all those drivers who turned out to support this training day - you make it all worthwhile!

Blue Sky - March 2018
Finally, an indoor event has managed to sneak past the winter weather!
A special thank you to Rosie, Tony, Patti, Keith and everyone who helped today.
Another great event at Askham Bryan today even though we got a bit damp.
Big thank you to John and Leslee Wilkinson and team for setting up, Alwin Harrison, Nigel Wilson and Barry Hilditch for timekeeping, Louise and Alan Potter for scoring, Melody Jones for photo taking and manning the gate, Tracy Squire for also doing a sterling job on the gate, Keith Hampshire or stepping up to steward for the cones and anyone else I may have missed.
Well, to be honest, it was a bit of a trial of a pleasure at the indoor today - but only because it was sooooo cold! Icy rain for a couple of hours didn't help either. But, Christmas spirit was there in abundance, not to mention also in the form of mulled wine!
A huge thank you to John and Leslee and their team for going the extra mile in terms of Christmas decorations, to judges Mary Lunn and Angela Flanagan & friend, to Alwin Harrison and Julian Hartley for timekeeping, to Judy Hilditch and co for the thankless task of getting people up out of the warm up arena in time and manning the gate, to the Potters for scoring, to Penny Hartley for the mulled wine, to Melody Jones for taking pictures all day as well as cones stewarding, to Rachel at Cottage Catering for keeping us supplied with hot food and drink, to any of the other fantastic helpers who's names I've missed off here and, of course, to our wonderful drivers for supporting the event
Another great - if somewhat chilly! - indoor event at Askham Bryan today.
Big thanks to the following: John and Leslee Wilkinson and their team for bringing everything and setting it all up and various other tasks throughout the day. To Angela Flanagan and Mary Lunn for judging, to Alan and Louise Potter for scoring, Alwin Harrison and Julian Hartley for timing etc and Mary Longbottom for being an excellent manure removal technician!
None of us could enjoy ourselves competing without all the hard work which goes in to making the events run.
Excellent first indoor event at Askham Bryan today.
Big thank you to John and team for setting up - and particularly to Leslee for all the halloween-themed decorations! To the Potters for scoring and other sundries, Alwin and Julian for time keeping, and various door openers - and of course to all our fabulous drivers for supporting the event.
Congratulations to Paula Kay and her team for winning the costume competition!
Congratulations also go to Tara Wilkinson, who has been chosen to represent Great Britain at the forthcoming Combined Pony World Championships in Minden, Germany, in August.
Great job Tara!
Sponsored Drive - March 2017
A beautiful sunny day for the sponsored drive. Thank you to all those who came to support fund raising for such a worthy cause.
We'd like to say a big thank you to a friend of Sheila Hawking - Les Liddle - for taking some super photos and letting us use them.
Update: Sheila Hawking would like to thank all Participants, Sponsors, Stewards and not forgetting the Course Builder, for helping to raise £2,854 for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Since 2004, we have raised £46,920 for various Charities, my goal has always been to reach £50,000!! so, hopefully, God willing, we will get there. My sincere thanks to Everyone.
Scorers Clinic - March 2017
A small group of enthusiastic helpers gathered together to take part in a scoring clinic, organised by Barry Hilditch, to train up new scorers and build upon the knowledge of our existing scorers to assist with the smooth running of the events.
The day was led by software writer Mike Watts, who very kindly wrote and provides for free the software some of you may be familiar with which produces our results sheets (amongst many other things - it's quite a clever Excel spreadsheet as we discovered).
The morning was spent having a refresher course (for many) and a speedy crash course for me at least, in the technicalities of scoring - how to calculate a dressage score when all you have is a list of numbers from 1 - 10, how many penalties do you award for a groom down and what exactly is the difference between an error of course and a corrected course.
We then found out the software calculates it all for us anyway (as I said, clever piece of software!) but it's always handy to know just in case.
After a super lunch prepared by Sue Oddy, the afternoon was spent going through a theoretical 2 day event, from the planning stage and drawing up the schedules right through to printing off the final results sheet and posting online.
Having the author of the software on hand to answer our questions, show us easier ways of working and letting us in on some trade secrets when using the spreadsheet will hopefully put our group of scorers in an excellent position for the upcoming summer season and we hope the new recruits will provide some extra backup to our often overlooked existing scoring team.
Indoor Driving Event - Askham Bryan, March 2017
Another excellent and final event at Askham Bryan today. Many thanks to all those who help it run so successfully, John and Leslee, Craig, Julian, Mary, the redoubtable Potter family and anyone else I may have missed.

Big thank you to John and Leslee Wilkinson for organising, the Potter family for scoring/manning the gate, Jill and Mary for judging, Craig and Mary for stewarding - along with Janet and Steve Nichol who, I'm sure, could have found something more romantinc than timekeeping to do on their ruby wedding aniversary!!
