Getting Started With Carriage Driving
Everyone was new to carriage driving once and we want to give you the best possible start!
We've compiled some advice about getting started with the club and driving at competitions.
When you start and before you spend a lot of money, please get in touch with us if you want any extra advice or help getting started. We should be able to point you in the right direction!
All drivers who are new to the club must be assessed before being allowed to compete in NEDTL events. More information can be found in the assessments policy on the club documents page.
Anyone wanting an assessment should contact Pat Cooper on 07961564348
This is a requirement of our public liability insurance and is carried out in accordance with the guidelines laid down by British Carriagedriving.
The only exception to this rule is with regard to drivers who have already undergone assessment with another driving club, in which case they will simply be asked to provide evidence of this.
Presentation and Dress
As you know, the NEDTL has, for 2013, elected to follow national guidelines regarding standing presentation.
"Presentation will always be a difficult issue and the dress of the driver is very subjective. However, it’s important to remember that the turnout is judged AS A WHOLE and everything should be appropriate for the level of the vehicle."
This pictorial guide is intended to give some examples of suitable dress for driver and groom in the dressage and cones phase of the competition.
Your First Two Day Event
As we have several new drivers competing this year, these are intended as a few pointers to help you enjoy your events with the NEDTL.
We've written a short guide covering arrival, your dressage and cones day and your marathon day.
The guide is not exhaustive, and if you have any further questions or would like some extra advice, please don't hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to point you in the right direction. We're all very friendly!
